Welcome to the Justine Henin Community.
Justine Henin (born June 1, 1982 in Liège) is a retired professional Belgian tennis player. On 14 May 2008, Henin announced her immediate retirement from professional tennis. She was 25 years old and ranked World No. 1 at the time of her retirement. Billie Jean King has said that "pound for pound, [Henin] is the best tennis player of her generation."
Henin won 41 WTA singles titles and more than US$19 million in prize money. Seven of those titles were Grand Slam singles titles, including four French Open titles (four of the last five and the last three, consecutively), one Australian Open title, and two U.S. Open titles. She also won the WTA Tour Championships twice and the singles gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Tennis experts cite her mental toughness, the completeness and variety of her game, her footspeed and footwork, and her one-handed backhand (which John McEnroe has described as the best single-handed backhand in the women's or men's game) as the principal reasons for her success.

Belgian belter is first woman to quit with No. 1 world ranking
She was not the plain Jane of women's tennis, she was the plain Justine, a woman who refused to adorn herself through her costumes or cosmetics. The game was all that mattered to Justine Henin.
“I'm here because I'm playing tennis,” Henin would say to those who would question why she did not make an effort to market herself.
Yesterday the Belgian woman, 25, stepped away from tennis while at the pinnacle of the sport, becoming the first woman to retire while ranked No. 1. Her steely resolve seemingly had been worn away by the injuries and illnesses she had borne and by a realization that for her to sustain her career at the level she had attained would not be possible.
“At the end of the match in Berlin, there was something evident,” she said during a news conference in Limelette, Belgium, speaking of a recent 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 loss to Dinara Safina. “I decided to stop fooling myself and accept it.”
